9.15am – 9.25am – Welcome & address from the Chair of AIHHP

9.30 – 11am – Exhibition Tour

(these same groups will then be the ‘teams’ for the cocktail clinic – see below!)

11.10 – 12.10 ‘Managing Staff – some thoughts from Freud?’

Ms Christine DePlacido, Queen Margaret’s University, Edinburgh

This presentation will cover the theories of relationships and human behaviour and what helps/ prevents the development of good therapeutic and work relationships. There are also practical tips for handling “difficult” people and the audience will be encouraged to engage in reflection and self-analysis.

12.10 – 13.00 HCPC – our standards for continuing professional development (CPD)

Alison Croad, HCPC Policy Officer

Learn about the HCPC’s requirements for your continuing professional development, how the CPD audit process works, and what you should do if you are chosen for audit.

13.00- 14.30 – LUNCH & Exhibition Visit

14.30- 15.00 Tinnitus suppression using low rate modulated sounds – A breakthrough approach.

Kevin Carlyon, SoundCure

This presentation covers an un-expected breakthrough in tinnitus treatment at the University of California which led to the development of “S-Tones” and a recently published clinical study ”Temporary Suppression of Tinnitus by Modulated Sounds” – Reavis et Al JARO 2012

15.00 – 15.45 REM tips on practical use in the clinic

Wendy Davies, Siemens

Real ear measurements have been around for many years and have a valuable role in fitting hearing instruments. A review of signals, probe tube placement and the consequences of not performing a REM remind us why this is still a differentiating and important procedure.

15.45 – 16.45 TEA/COFFEE & Exhibition Visit

16.45 – 17.30 MuteButton – novel neuromodulatory interventions for tinnitus, present and future.

Ross O’Neill, Mutebutton

Hearing loss drives behavioural, functional and even anatomical changes in the human peripheral and central nervous systems through a process known as neuroplasticity, the ability of neurons to self-organise according to stimuli.  These changes give rise to adverse perceptual symptoms: ‘imaginary sound’.  However, the advent of brain-imaging technologies has shown that neuroplasticity can be harnessed through the application of neuromodulatory interventions such as MuteButton.  In fact, neuromodulation constitutes the most promising basis for a truly effective treatment for a condition that has long-remained stubbornly untreatable.
