The Different Routes to Getting Hearing Aids in the UK

How do you go about getting hearing aids in the UK?

There are have two main routes you can get hearing aids :-

  • You can either go to your GP and ask to be put on the NHS waiting list for their free hearing aids.
  • Or you can go to a private provider of hearing aids.

So which is the best route for you?

If you choose the private option you pay for your hearing aid and the services related to fitting and maintaining of your hearing aids.  Currently the Government do not have a system to allow you to use an NHS allowance to put towards a private instrument, as is the case in the provision of spectacles.

So why would you want to pay for something you can get free on the NHS?

As with many other healthcare services, there are many positive reasons for opting for a private supplier rather than the NHS option.
